Just before 3:30am Fire crews responded to a report of a trash fire near 570 S 9th street. Modesto E19 arrived on scene and found a fire in a scrap yard with another fire up against a building. A commercial fire response was requested due to the fire near the building and a large amount of fire at least feet in the air. Fire crews made access to the building and were able to knock the fire quickly after they transitioning to the large pile of scrap burning.
A safety manager arrived on scene and told me that they had video of two subjects in the scrap yard setting the fire. The safety manger also told me the two subjects were last seen throwing a object near the building before fleeing the scene.
